» Consumers needn’t wait for Ofcom ruling to save money on mobile usage

Following an announcement from the UK’s communications regulator Ofcom that it is planning to cut the cost of mobile termination charges many people may be looking forward to cheaper bills. However, some industry officials have said that there is no need to wait around for the ruling to come into effect to save money on mobile phone usage.

It was announced recently by the UK’s communications regulator Ofcom that it was planning to introduce a ruling that would see the cost of mobile termination charges reduced, and following this announcement millions of landline and mobile phone users may be hoping to start seeing cheaper bills once the ruling comes into play.

However, cheaper mobile calls may not necessarily be a side effect of this ruling, because although mobile operators will save money on these termination charges they will also lose revenue as a result of having to cut their own termination fees. However, this does not mean that mobile customers cannot save money, and industry officials have said that there is no need to wait for the Ofcom ruling to come into play in order to save money.

One suggestion that has been made in a recent report is for those looking to save money on their mobile phone usage to look at SIM only deals, as these can offer far better value for money compared to standard mobile phone contracts because they will either cost less each month or you will get more inclusive texts and minutes for your money.

Officials have said that there is also plenty of choice in terms of contract periods with SIM only offers, with anything ranging from Pay as You Go and monthly contracts to longer term SIM only deals.
