A company in the UK has claimed that the use of SMS reminders sent to consumers’ mobile phones is working wonders in terms of decreasing loss of business and revenue.
With millions of people in the UK now owning a mobile phone that they carry around everywhere and use on a daily basis the value of having SMS capabilities have really grown. In the past SMS was often used by companies simply to market their services and products, and in most cases did nothing to help the consumer who simply had to go to the trouble of deleting the message.

The mobile network giant O2 has reported a successful year in 2009 in terms of customer numbers, and has contributed this success to a number of factors including the take up of SIM only deals.
Last year we learned that the mobile network giant O2 was losing its exclusivity when it came to selling the popular Apple iPhone, with Apple having brought two more providers on board to sell the device in the form of Orange and Vodafone. Many thought that this move would have a serious negative impact on O2’s customer base.

The original provider of the Apple iPhone, O2, has stepped up the competition with rival providers with the launch of a new SIM only package for the iPhone.
Over the past few months competition amongst some network and mobile broadband providers has been hotting up, and this is because of the popular smart phone, the Apple iPhone. Previously this handset was only available through one provider, O2, which had an exclusivity contract with Apple. However, a few months ago two more rival network providers signed contracts with Apple, increasing the number of providers from which consumers could get the Apple iPhone.

Just 48% of mobile phone users recognise the term ‘SIM only contract’ and only 21% are aware that a SIM only contract can cut mobile phone tariffs by 50%, says comparison site www.simonlyoffers.com.
The comparison site undertook a survey of 250 mobile phone users; the findings of which suggest that consumers could be missing a trick when it comes to securing themselves the best value mobile phone tariff.

There is speculation that the mobile network provider Vodafone may be out to start an iPhone SIM only price war after announcing a deal to try and tempt consumers from rival networks whose contracts have expired.
Until late last year mobile network provider O2 had the monopoly on the popular Apple iPhone, having signed an exclusive deal with Apple to supply the iPhone. This meant that when the contracts of iPhone customers came to an end they would have to renew through O2 because there was no other network provider in the field. However, last year saw Orange jump on board with the iPhone and earlier this year Vodafone also joined the rat race.

It has been announced that the BBC is now set to launch its first applications for the Apple iPhone, with a move that could see the popularity of its online content extend to mobile phones.
